Long-Term RV Stay Checklist for Kilgore
October 13, 2026
Start Your Long-Term RV Stay Checklist
A multi-month move to Kilgore goes more smoothly when your rig, reservation, utilities, work connection, mail and Texas paperwork are settled before arrival. This long-term RV stay checklist gives RV and tiny-home residents six practical steps, from confirming site compatibility to establishing everyday routines at Ruby's Place RV Park.
Step 1: Confirm Rig Compatibility and Secure Your Reservation
Start with exact measurements. At Ruby's Place RV Park, we accommodate RVs up to 40 feet long. Tell us the full length of your motorhome, fifth wheel, or travel trailer, including anything mounted at the rear. You should also measure the width with slides extended and note the space needed for steps, awnings, and tow vehicles.
Tiny homes are welcome, but we ask you to contact us in advance. We need to discuss the home's dimensions, hookups, and current site availability. Do not assume a site will suit a tiny home based on trailer length alone. Clearance, utility placement, and safe positioning also matter.
Confirm whether your unit requires 30-amp or 50-amp service. Our published all-inclusive monthly rates are $500 for 30-amp service and $675 for 50-amp service. Electricity, water, sewer, trash, and park-wide high-speed WiFi are bundled into that flat monthly price. We also offer a $375 move-in special for new residents; ask about its current terms when reserving.
Rates cover two people and one vehicle. Any extra vehicle must receive written approval before arrival. A deposit may be held for monthly or seasonal guests and is confirmed with the paid reservation. Get the site, rate, electrical service, deposit, and arrival date confirmed in writing.
Step 2: Inspect and Connect Utilities at Your Site
Once you arrive, park and level the unit before making final connections. Check that slides and awnings have enough clearance, then inspect the electrical pedestal, water spigot, and sewer inlet. If anything appears loose, damaged, scorched, or unsuitable for your equipment, stop and speak with on-site management.
- Switch the pedestal breaker off before connecting. Plug an Electrical Management System surge protector into the pedestal first, check its reading, and then connect your shore-power cable. Turn the breaker on only after the equipment shows a safe connection.
- Use a drinking-water-safe hose, a filter if desired, and an adjustable pressure regulator with a gauge. Transwest recommends keeping RV water pressure around 40 to 50 PSI to protect plumbing and fixtures.
- Fit the sewer outlet with a secure, airtight adaptor. Support the line so it slopes toward the inlet without low points. Ask whether a rigid Schedule 40 PVC connection is required for your extended setup rather than assuming a flexible hose is acceptable.
Keep the black-tank valve closed during normal use instead of allowing liquid to drain continuously. Empty the tank when it is sufficiently full to move solids, then use the gray tank to rinse the sewer line. Our sites provide electrical, water, and sewer connections, but you remain responsible for compatible hoses, regulators, adaptors, and protection equipment. Our 30-amp and 50-amp hookup guide can help you prepare before moving day.

Step 3: Establish Reliable Workstations and Internet Redundancy
Remote work needs more than a strong signal icon. We provide complimentary high-speed WiFi throughout the park for work, streaming, and everyday use. Before an important meeting, test your connection from the exact place where you will work. Check video-call quality, upload performance, and stability during the hours when you normally work.
We recommend keeping an independent backup if your income depends on staying online. A cellular hotspot or router on a different network can cover a temporary WiFi interruption. Check carrier coverage in Kilgore before choosing a plan, since performance can vary by device and site position.
Protect your computer and router with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). It can keep equipment running through a brief power interruption or the delay while an EMS reconnects shore power. Store local copies of files needed for active work, and make sure cloud syncing resumes correctly after any outage.
Inside the unit, choose a workstation where chairs and monitor arms can be secured for travel. Keep cables away from walkways and use a headset if you share the space with another resident.
Step 4: Arrange Mail, Package Forwarding, and Deliveries
Do not plan your stay around an assumed on-site mailbox or parcel service. Before using any park address, ask management and the delivery carrier whether that use is permitted. Set up a separate solution before forwarding important documents.
- Rent a USPS P.O. Box in Kilgore and ask the post office which services and parcel options are available for that box.
- Use a private mailbox through a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency. Ask what identification and authorization forms are required, whether the address can be used for the type of account you are opening, and how packages are handled.
- Choose a virtual mailbox if you need envelope scans and selective forwarding while traveling. Review privacy practices, forwarding fees, and pickup rules before subscribing.
- Send eligible online orders to a retailer locker or carrier pickup location. Confirm the collection deadline for each package because holding periods differ.
Update payroll, banking, insurance, and client records separately. A mailing address does not automatically establish legal residence or prove that an RV site is your permanent domicile.
Step 5: Navigate Texas Residency, Vehicle Registration, and Local Services
A long stay does not always mean you are becoming a Texas resident. If you are establishing permanent residence, handle state paperwork early and keep your lease or reservation documents, insurance records, and vehicle paperwork accessible.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles says new residents must register their vehicles within 30 days of moving to Texas. Check its new-resident process before visiting the county tax office so you know which inspection, insurance, ownership, and identification documents apply to you.
For a Texas driver's license or ID, the Texas Department of Public Safety generally requires two printed documents showing Texas residency and explains when its usual 30-day residency requirement is waived for someone surrendering a valid out-of-state license. Confirm the current transfer deadline and document list directly with DPS.
If Kilgore will be your voting domicile, submit your registration through the appropriate county elections office. Kilgore crosses a county line, so verify which county applies to your physical address rather than selecting an office based only on the city name.
Build a short local-services list as well. Walmart Supercenter is at 1201 Stone Street, while Brookshire's is at 747 US Highway 259 North. For urgent medical planning, note the CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Emergency Center at 1612 South Henderson Boulevard. Verify operating details before making a special trip.

Step 6: Settle into Park Life and Community Routines
Daily routines make an extended stay feel settled. Ruby's Place offers a quiet, family-oriented atmosphere in the East Texas piney woods, with on-site management and a clean coin-operated laundry room that includes a folding area.
Plan for coins and avoid leaving loads unattended longer than necessary. Clear the dryer lint trap after each load. For more ways to manage clothing and bedding in a smaller space, use our long-term RV laundry guide.
We are pet-friendly and provide walking areas and pet waste stations. Keep your pet on a leash and collect waste immediately. Ask about current pet restrictions before booking, especially if you are traveling with more than one animal or have questions about a particular pet.
Keep your outdoor area tidy, respect quiet surroundings, and introduce yourself to nearby residents without assuming they share your schedule. Traveling workers, students, and remote professionals may sleep or work at different times.
